Volunteer Opportunities

Artnation actively seeks alliances with artists and arts-friendly people. We're looking for experienced, high-initiative people willing to contribute their professional skills and energy. We're also recruiting Board Members to help Artnation reach its next level of growth.

Artnation offers volunteer opportunities in Film Programming, Online Community Programming, Exhibitions, Literary Series Facilitation, Volunteer & Office Management, Bookkeeping, Grant Writing, and Development, as well as employment opportunities in Fundraising.


The work is primarily project-based. Telecommuting is welcomed and encouraged. The hours are flexible. Graduate-level college credit can be arranged if needed.

Volunteer opportunities are available in the following areas:

BOARD MEMBER
9 - 15 hours/mo. Ongoing.

Provides leadership, governance, and professional expertise to inform Artnation's programs and operations. Participates in year-round fundraising efforts. Serves on special committees. Attends regular and special Board meetings. In collaboration with current Board Members, provides expertise in strengthening Artnation's organizational capacity, infrastructure, and community relationships. Acts as spokesperson to and builds partnerships with a diverse constituent base, including artists, volunteers, communities, institutions, funders, and the non-profit arts community.


FILM PROGRAM COORDINATOR
3 months commitment, 6 hrs/wk.

Organizes film screenings for local and international independent filmmakers. Identifies Bay Area collaborators and venues. Helps with grant writing for screenings. In addition, fundraises for post-production costs and festival fees for Artnation-produced films. Enters films into festivals. Arranges for local and national screenings.

ONLINE COMMUNITY PROGRAMMER
9 hrs/wk. Flexible hours. Work some from home.

Adds interactive elements and functionality to Artnation’s website. Enables community bulletin, podcasting, and multimedia artwork gallery. Advises on how to webcast live performances. Designs feature pages for artists’ / artwork archives.

EXHIBITIONS COORDINATOR
6 hrs/wk. 6 months commitment.

Working with Artnation’s Artistic Director and an international curator, helps launch exhibits by international painters. Arrange for shipping, keeping, and mounting of artworks. Coordinate communication between curator and galleries and organizations. Preparator experience a plus. Great for someone interested in learning about curatorial work.

LITERARY SERIES FACILITATOR

17 hours/month. 3 months commitment to start.

Facilitates Artnation’s monthly Cold Reading Series. Identifies external venue / collaborator for readings. Provides outreach for series. Theater or literature graduate students highly preferred.

VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR & OFFICE MANAGER
6 hrs/wk. Ongoing.

Maintains ongoing schedule and communication with volunteers. Provides research and administrative support for Managing Director & Artistic Director. Familiarity with non-profit management preferred.

BOOKKEEPER

1 day/month. Ongoing.

Performs bookkeeping duties and prepares financial statements. Applicants with some US work experience in accounting preferred.

GRANT WRITER
6+ hrs/wk. 3 months commitment to start. After the trial period, this could become a paid position.

Writes grant proposals for various Artnation programs, projects, and seed money. Researches potential funders. Establishes contacts with foundations and corporations. Manages fundraising calendar.

FUNDRAISER
6+ hrs/wk. Ongoing.

Organizes special event(s) and other year-round fundraising efforts. Secures in-kind and monetary donations. Must be comfortable establishing rapport with prospective funders. Helps Grant Writer with preparing grant proposals.
