Pina Bausch & Wuppertaler Tanztheatre

Beginning in the late 60s, stimulated by the youth upheavals of the 1968 period, young German choreographers reacted against the formalism of German Ballet and of American dance. So they reached back to the traditions of ausdruckstanz and intermingled influences drawn from experimental theater and, surprisingly, from American modern dance. Perhaps even more surprising is the paradoxical relationship between tanztheatre and German ballet. Read more...

Writers Group Launch in Early 2008

Someone you know, perhaps yourself, has an unmet promise of becoming a great, prolific writer.
It lives in you like a dream, at times cinematic and lucid, at times faint like the din of a faraway train.

Do you love the cadence, the voluptuousness, the defiance and spit of words? Will you join us in creating a writers’ group? It’ll exist solely for the purpose of advancing the practice and poetics of writing. It’ll demand a good amount of tenacity, vision, and above all, devotion toward becoming a serious writer.

We’ll write. We’ll meet weekly. We’ll give honest, constructive feedback on each other’s works.

It’ll be one of the best, most challenging things we’ve done for ourselves. At the end, we’ll have bred and fed that rarest of creatures--a plane of consistency, toward a practice we really love and care about.

When Artnation, a grassroots nonprofit dedicated to the creative act, came to be, it was with the hope of generating momentum for aspiring, even tentative artists to realize their potential. With such an immensity to life, and so little time, there’s no time better than now to catalyze vision into living, breathing reality.

To apply, send a short writing sample to info@artnation.org. We’ll call a meeting as soon as we have a core of interested folks.

Feeling expressive? Offer your musings, writings, & art comments to Artnation's artblog.
